Graduation Day

Erica is graduating from her Infusion program tonight. She is flying to Louisville to have dinner with her classmates and the CEO. She will be back tomorrow night.

Basement Living Room

This is what the basement is looking like these days. It is the only neat and tidy area in the house at the moment. Those stairs go up to the back door and then continue up and into the kitchen. To the right of the couch is a bathroom. I was standing in the hallway to the 2 basement bedrooms when I snapped this shot. To the left of the closet door is a built in desk/office area as well as the utility room and laundry room.

We need to paint, hang art, clean and organize, and continue to eradicate spiders in order to get the basement in shape.

Besides building furniture, this is really all we can speak about as far as unpacking progress since Saturday. I (Erica) am just exhausted and feeling a little off my game. After dinner last night I pretty much slept all evening, passed out on the couch (sorry I missed your call Mom). I am traveling for work a couple days this week and only have a vague idea where everything is that I will need. Part of the problem is we are not sure where all of my clothes are going, or how we are going to "live" with me and all of my stuff here. There is a really nice walk in closet in the basement that would fit everything, but do I want to go downstairs to get dressed every day? Do we want to use the spare upstairs bedroom instead? Have only season appropriate clothes upstairs? We'll figure it all out in time.

Bathroom Upgrade

We also hauled a sink, cabinet, and faucets home. Chris is putting the cabinet together right now. It is a high gloss gray and will hopefully help tone down the salmon tile once the walls are also (light) gray. Everything fits in our existing space, gives us more storage, and we are upgrading to double sinks.

Furniture Builder

I think most of the boxes in our moving truck were unopened boxes full of goodies from Ikea. Chris has been putting together furniture most of the day. We are getting an Ikea in Denver at the end of July, but we decided we didn't want to wait. Plus, it is going to be a zoo for at least the first 6 months it is open. We are prepared to stay away as long as possible.

New Coffee and End Table for our living room: The Ramvik. They have glass inset tops and drawers which are badly needed to stow away remotes and DVDs. The coffee table has a drawer on each end. The end table has a front drawer.

And a new floor lamp that we are pretty excited about: The Rutbo. It has a dimmer function and gives off great light. It stands ~60 inches high.

Home Sweet Home

We made it home safe and sound. We both thought the trip went more quickly and was easier than we remembered.

The truck is empty except the couch and mattress. We need to do some rearranging in the house to make room first.

Right now we are at Billy's Inn for a bite to eat. We walked over from the house. We are starving!! We ate breakfast 12 hours ago and skipped lunch.

Wild B.I.R.D.

This guy was hanging out behind the garage and he had a wounded wing. Chris took him to the Wild Bird Information and Rehabilitation of Denver last night.

A book.  I am excited to read it, I think it will be good.

Backyard

Here are a couple pictures by request. When we moved in, the grass looked pretty good, except for many large dead spots where the previous owner did not pick up after her dog. We recently cut all of the dead areas out. This past weekend we laid down some new sod, which Chris is watering in the picture. We have also been weed-n-feeding it and it has done a nice job getting rid of the weeds.

The building in the picture is our neighbors garage. It gets very warm with Western sun exposure, so the grass is always dead along the hot brick. Maybe a little strip of decorative gravel and some xeric plants will work. The big bush is also coming out at some point. Raised vegetable beds might be nice in the back corner along the fence.

The is our patio. Our new patio furniture recently arrived. It seems to be high quality and we got it for a steal. Chris has been slowly working on the patio chairs which are tedious to put together. We still have 4 more waiting for assembly.

The gold light fixture over the back door is going to be spray painted black for the time being. There was a wooden structure covering the patio when we moved in. It was rotten and didn't have a roof, so we tore it down almost immediately. The cables and wires on the exterior need to be straightened up as they were attached to the structure at one time.

We have mucho plans for the patio and backyard, so stay tuned.

4 days left. All things UT

My surprise was anything you ever could have imagined with 'Utah' on it. UT coffee mug, back scratcher, luggage tag, postcards, book, Mormon cook book, BYU stickers for game day, and a little red BMW matchbox car.

My very first day, we met at my coworker Kathy's house. She lived in a new subdivision that wasn't in my GPS and I had difficulty finding her place. So Travis and Mark came to rescue me because I was all turned around. In fact, they told me to pull over until they got to me. As they were approaching, Mark asked me what kind of car I was driving, and then said, "You aren't driving a red BMW, are you!?" Being the new guy and also being in the Infusion Program, which has a negative connotation associated with it (Mark fired his last Infusion Candidate), I didn't want them to think I was going to waltz onto the team with my BMW and a hot shot attitude. Hence, the matchbox car.

We had a good laugh about that today. The Infusion Program is a leadership development program with special curriculum, mentoring, and opportunities to work closely with senior leadership which are not available to other Humana Associates. I think this 10 days of gifts is a testament to the fact that I was anything but a hot shot Infusion Candidate. In fact, Mark told me I have to report to corporate how awful my experience was so he doesn't get another Infusion because I am one in a million and lightning doesn't strike twice.
