Mower

Chris helped me repair my lawn mower today. I thought I needed a new mower because I hit something last week - the blade was bent and I could only pull the pull-to-start-rope out a few inches. Chris pounded out the skirt around the bottom because that was bent too, and put on a new blade and my mower is good as new.

Poodle

It is no secret that my sister fondly refers to me as Poodle. So, when I found this sticker in an Oak Park shop last weekend, I had to take a picture.

This is a picture of a cockroach that was in the bathroom at work. My coworker took a picture of it with her phone. I put my hand in the picture to give some size perspective - that thing was HUGE!

After the fact, I found a sentence or two in the text that talks about this problem:

Managers sometimes get confused in trying to calculate the opportunity cost of resources that have changed in value. For example, land that your organization bought some time ago may be much more valuable if rents in the area have risen sharply or much less valuable if rents have fallen sharply. Most of the time, though, an input's opportunity cost is simply its market price.

Economics Homework Help!

I have been working on my economics hw all morning. Chris has been helping too. We don't know the logic behind this question and it is not in my textbook. Does anyone have any insight? I don't think A is correct, but I am not sure about B or C. They both seem fishy to me.

Your president bought two acres of land for $200,000 10 years ago. Although it has a commercial zoning, it currently houses eight small, single-family houses. Two have been condemned, but the other six generate rents of $9,000 per month. Since property values are usually 12 to 20 times rental values, that suggests a value of $108,000 to $180,000. A developer wants to build a 12-story apartment building on the site and has offered $600,000. What value should you assign to the property?

A) What you paid for it, $200,000.
B) Its value in its current use, $108,00 to $180,000.
C) Its value in its best use, $600,000.

We are already feeling the pinch of increased airfares and the decreased airline flights and crews. 2 useful tools to help with this are Farecast and Delaycast. The do just what they say - forecast fares and delays.

I-RAD: Interactive Radar

The spring has been full of bad weather, and this evening is no different. The KC metro area is under a tornado watch until midnight. The local meteorologists here are very sensational and down right ridiculous about the weather. Any time there is even a chance of severe weather in the area you can count on having normal television interrupted for hours and hours of live coverage from weather centers on all local channels.

But lucky for me, I can now take the anxiety inducing weather people (especially Katie Horner on channel 5, she is the WORST) out of my life with I-RAD, the new interactive radar that KMBC-9 rolled out this week:


It is way cool! If you zoom in, you can click on the weather icons that tell you what kind of weather to expect from each cell. If you hover over the icons, it will show you a time line for the storm and where it is expected to go. Click on the picture above to check it out for yourself in your area.

Amazon Kindle

I stumbled upon the Amazon Kindle today. It is an electronic book reader. Even though I do not read as much as I would like, I thought this was really cool. I think this would be perfect for college students if textbooks were offered in e-form.

First Day of Summer School.

This is the second summer that I have taken classes. This time around I am taking Health Care Economics, Tobacco and Public Health, and internship credits - 9 credits in all.

I am doing special projects at work that will count toward an internship. So far, I have validated a new automatic stainer for the lab, and am in the process of updating all of the SOP's involved with it. I am getting ready to roll out a client satisfaction survey I made to our major clients, and am also going to start a time study to quantify the time savings and thus the redirected savings that the lab will gain by implementing the automatic stainer (Emily, I will be calling you to talk about this this week/weekend), along with a few other projects.

I float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.

Tonight I went to a boxing class with my friends Christina and Angie. I LOVED it! School starts tomorrow, so I am hoping to keep up with it over the summer months.

Chris bricked around my Pampas grass

It gets so big, it killed all of the grass around it. Now it will look nicer in the winter when we mow it over or in the early spring when it has not filled out yet. And, we are putting all of the bricks I have to good use!

You can also see that the peonies are kaput, but our shrub roses are in full bloom.
