Patio Sitting

We are spending time out on the back patio this afternoon.  We got all of our yard work done yesterday - grass is mowed and edged, and the gardens are cleaned out and pruned up.  It is gorgeous weather and the house is getting aired out too.   Erica did a marathon grocery shopping trip this morning, so we are set for the week.  All that is left to do is getting in some R&R.

On a side note, our nectarine tree is budded out and even has a few blossoms!  Maybe we will get lucky with fruit this year.

Life is good.  Happy Easter!

Tom's Home Cookin

Ate lunch at Tom's Home Cookin today.  They serve Southern comfort food 5 days a week, lunch only, and when we arrived at 11:30, there was a line out the door.  I had catfish, green beans, mac&cheese, and cobbler.  It is located in Five Points and they tweet their menu every day.

I want to take Chris, but no telling when we will be off work together during the week...He did get to have my left overs tonight at least.

Polaroid Fotobar

Really cool new Polaroid store in the Linq. You can download pictures in the store and get prints that fit into modular frame systems. Gonna check it out online when we get home.

Serenade

Kirk turned 40 and his birthday celebration is what brought us to Vegas. Here he is being serenaded by Gordy at Battista's Hole in the Wall.

Gordy has a funny face in this picture, but he was the sweetest man and has been playing accordion at the restaurant for 35 years.

That's a Wrap!

The bathroom is complete.

We used all-in-one mastic & grout which worked really slick for the small scale of this 3 tile project.  After Chris installed the tiles and grouted, Erica followed, super gluing all of the tile chips and pieces knocked out of the surrounding tile back into place and re grouting as needed (birds eye view of the chipped areas here). We had been holding on to these pieces for a long time!  There were a couple small chips out of the top black row that we didn't have the pieces for, but it was nothing a little black magic marker couldn't handle, and you can't even tell.

And just for fun, this is what the bathroom looked like when we moved in:

In Place

We know the tiles don't match exactly, but this is as good as it's going to get without doing an entire replace.    We bought these from a vintage tile maker in California.  This wall doesn't have much varation across the tiles, but others do, so the mismatch doesn't seem so out of place.

Man at Work

We are finally ready to repair the bathroom tile.  We left things off here.

I am not really sure why we waited so long.  It isn't taking much at all to chip out the rest of the tile and old mastic today (although it isn't a finished job just yet).  I think we both thought we still had a huge project to tackle and could only remember how frustrated we were about it.  And, with the faucets and soap caddy in place, the bad spots were a bit hidden.

Chris just emerged from the bathroom and said, "I think we're done." So on to the next stages of popping in the new tiles and grouting!

Chihuahua Friend

Zoey went to the dog sitter while we were away last weekend.  She made lots of friends and her doggie social skills are improving.

Birthday!

Holy Cats, what a great birthday!  The day started off with a decorated office cube, birthday coffee, bagels, and a sweet email from Dad, and ended with dinner at my favorite restaurant, Sugarmill with Chris and great friends.  Along with lots of birthday wishes from friends and family in between.

This was my beautiful birthday dessert - Shades of Yellow.  It was bright and citrusy and delicious.

One lucky girl!

The Bride

Libby is a dear friend.  We both grew up in Wisconsin, just miles apart, but we had to move to Kansas City to meet each other.

The first time we met was at a KC Jazz rugby practice in 2005.  I was talking, and I hear Libby say something to the effect of, "Who just said that, I know where that accent is from!" And we have been friends ever since.

She was a beautiful bride and we couldn't be happier for her and Ryan.
