We’re back after a whirlwind trip to Chicago!  Erica came down with a good head cold Friday night and we relaxed at at the house for the remainder of the trip.

Elf Movie Party

We watched Elf at the theater tonight in a movie party format.  Alamo strictly enforces no phones and no talking at movies, but movie parties are different.

We received Elf hats, bubbles, scratch & sniff cards, cotton balls (for the finger prick scene at the dr’s office), and balloons for a “snowball fight”.  And you are encouraged to quote along, sing along, and dance along to the movie.

We’re Living in the Basement

Almost ready for stain.  The floors should be all done this coming week!

New wood up the basement stairs & in the kitchen, and refinishing the wood on the first floor.

Our Year of Movies Starts Now

UPDATE:  we spent some time talking to the Concierge when we picked up our cards.  Each pass allows a guest!  And it isn’t limited to 1 movie per day - it’s 1 pass per movie!  Who wants to go to the movies with us!?  Gotta run - it’s time for A Star is Born.

I wanted to see A Star is Born, but all evening shows were sold out.  I think we’ll see it tomorrow at 9:15am.  In the meantime, Bohemian Rhapsody for tonight.

Business at the Capitol

Erica spoke at a hearing at the Capitol today (about rate (premium) filings with the DOI).  A new first.  It was quite  a bit of prep, but it was a cool experience.  Got to sit behind the dais in the hearing room and everything.

March of Dimes Signature Chefs Auction

I won us a years worth of movies for a year at Alamo Drafthouse. 1 movie per day for 2 ppl = $9,125 value!  First movie on the list: A Star is Born.

Retreat

I attended a yoga retreat in the mountains.  Since when has Erica done yoga, you ask?  This weekend is when!  Two gals named Steph and Kady (Big Booty Yoga) led the retreat and they were completely welcoming and inclusive.  

We practiced yoga each day, and attended workshops on things like meditation.  There was also a chef who cooked all of our meals - think steak & king crab for dinner and quiche and açaí bowls for breakfast. It was just what the doctor ordered after two very challenging and stressful months at work.  I hope to start attending yoga classes now.

We decided our next house project will be refinishing our hardwood floors.  There are original hard woods under the tile in the kitchen that we would like to go back to.  So we got to work...

At the Animal Urgent Care!

Z got stung by something in between the pads of her back foot.  She was definitely in pain, wouldn’t put any weight on it, and the top of her foot was red and swollen.  Of course, we didn’t know the cause of all of this at the time it happened.  Her foot was so swollen and odd shaped across the top of her paw, it looked like it could be sprained or even fractured.  

So, 2 animal ER/Urgent Cares later (there was a 2 hour wait at our first stop), we have a recovering patient.  A good paw cleaning, some steroid & Benadryl shots, and Z will be good as new soon.

Sausalito

After crossing the bridge, we cruised into Sausalito.  We tasted wine at Madrigal Family Winery Tasting Room, ate delicious pizza at San Drino and enjoyed the sights.  We rode the ferry with our bikes back across to Fisherman’s Wharf and then climbed up some crazy insane hills back to the hotel.

We’re hanging out in San Fran.  Southwest had cheap airfare a couple months ago so why not?

We arrived at our hotel late last night.  Today we ate lunch at Boudin Bistro  saw the sights along the waterfront and toured Alcatraz.
