Rockies vs. Mets

After the museum, we grabbed a quick bite and headed home.  Our friends Matt and Brooke were meeting us at our house before the Rockies game.  It was hot in the stadium even though it was only 58 degrees outside.  The Rockies were scoreless until Todd Helton pinch hit a grand slam in the 8th inning to tie the game 4-4.  Neither of us had seen a grand slam before.  The game went into extra innings and the Rockies eventually lost.

YSL at the DAM

We went to the Yves Saint Laurent exhibit at the Denver Art Museum this morning.  The exhibit was packed with people even at 10am on Sunday.  Denver is only the 3rd exhibit location in the world along with Paris and Madrid.

It had an audio tour which was nice.  I wasn't sure how Chris was going to like it, but even he said it was interesting.

There were 200 haute couture outfits, including this room of Le Smoking female tuxedos.

First Ride of the Year & We Didn't Strike it Rich

Chris on the Clear Creek Trail.  We biked 28 miles round trip to Golden today.  Beautiful weather and blue skies.

Along the way there were at least 30 people out panning for Gold along Clear Creek.  It was an unexpected sight.

Rockies vs Padres

Erica is entertaining work people at the Rockies game tonight.  It was a fun game and the Rockies scored 8 runs which means 4 tacos for $2 at Taco Bell tomorrow from 4-6pm.

Tax Day

We are back from our Chicago mini vacation to face the beginning of the work week and tax day.  We filed our federal return at the end of March, and we mailed our last multi-state returns last Monday!  I know Utah received our return.  They cashed the $1 check that we owed them yesterday (yes, you read that correctly, we owed a buck to the great state of Utah this year).

It is always such a relief to have our taxes completed.  We are definitely not looking forward to taxes next year, but couldn't be happier that we will only be filing in one state for once!

Happy Birthday Part 2

We were in Chicago for a 4 day weekend.  Mom and dad drove down for the weekend too.  Emily hosted a belated 30th birthday party for the both of us.  I think it was safe to say that everyone had a good time.  Here is a picture of the spread that Emily put together.  Complete with cotton candy, carmel corn, corn dogs and cotton candy martinis.

Mom and Dad brought a Chocolate Turtle Cake from Manderfield's.  Yum.

Its Been a Year!

We moved in a little over a year ago, I can't believe it!  You can check out the day we closed on this little beauty here.  The idea for this post came from the fact that Chris has been freaking out about our grass and its lack of greenness in comparison to the neighbors.  I had the idea to compare it to the day we bought it, which happened to be this same time of year (the grass is currently much greener).

Then, I started to think of everything that has happened around here in the last 12 months:
1. Painted the entry, living room, dining room, bathroom, wine room/kitchen + trim, and downstairs bedroom.
2. Worked front flower beds and put in new plants and mulch.
3. Tore down old patio structure and had new stamped patio poured.
4. Put in a new electrical box.
5. Buried overhead electrical to garage under new patio.
6. Poured concrete slab behind the garage and put up a new shed.
7. Put up a new back fence.
8. Whole house brick pintucked and had built in grill installed.
9. Installed double sinks in upstairs bath.
10.Transformed dining room chandelier.
11. Got all 4 bedrooms up and running.
12. Installed shelves for a pantry.
13. Ripped out laundry room cabinets for new washer & dryer.
14. Retro fitted old laundry room sink with new cabinet to accommodate washer & dryer.
15. Got rid of old kegerator for new upright freezer.
16. New ceiling fans in living room and master bedroom.
17. New light fixtures in wine room, dining room (sconces), upstairs hall (sconce) & bathroom.
18. Cut down tree/bush outside the dining room window.
19. Spray painted recessed lights in kitchen.
20. Ripped out bedroom carpet.
21. Frosted back door window.
22. Removed medicine cabinet, patched hole, found a mirror we both liked for cheap.

What we still want to do:
1. Rip out periwinkle patch between house and driveway and put in rock.
2. Construct raised gardens in backyard where grass won't grow
3. Rock between new concrete slab and back neighbors garage.
4. Build new fence next to the patio.
5. Spray paint gold light fixture over back door.
6. Refinish and seal front door.
7. Put in Egress in downstairs bedrooms.
8. Paint the downstairs + trim.
9. Paint back hallway/stairs.
10. Build closet in second downstairs bedroom.
11. Reposition dining room light over the table.
12. Cut down and re-bind dining room rug.
13. Replace the 3 missing tiles in the upstairs bathroom.
14. Paint upstairs bedrooms.
15. Build cover for grounding wire & water pipe in downstairs bedroom.
16. Replace driveway.
17. Replace roof (someday).
18. Rip out bush in the backyard to make room for raised garden.
19. Mulch and plant the retaining wall garden on far side of driveway.
20. Replace basement windows.
21. Repair/restore upstairs windows.

Avalanche!

Last game of the season - the Avalanche lost horribly.

We were there with a group of people and were playing a gambling game where everyone put a dollar in a cup that was passed around.  You had to take out or put in more money if you were in possession of the cup and   there was a whistle, or icing, etc.  If you were holding the cup and there was a score or a fight broke out, you got to take the pot.  Erica won the pot 4 times!

The Birthday Train is Still Rolling

My desk was decorated when I got to the office on Monday morning, to my great surprise.  Today, they brought in a birthday cake for a working lunch with colleagues from the Louisville, Green Bay, and Kansas City offices.

I also won the Men's NCAA basketball bracket at the office and took home $85 today!!

So far 30 is GREAT!

Patio Party

We had amazing weather this weekend; perfect for a 30th birthday party celebration on the patio.  We had around 30 party goers in this space on Saturday evening.  Food and drink was set up in the garage and beer pong was played in the driveway.  I think it was safe to say a fun time was had by all.

We lit the propane fire pit both Friday and Saturday nights and it worked beautifully.  We were pleasantly surprised at the amount of heat it gives off and you don't have to worry about smelling like bonfire.

And yes, that is a toilet in the pictures.  We replaced this one over the winter and hadn't disposed of it yet.  Chris dragged it out of the garage on Friday night as a joke and we thought it would be a funny addition to the party on Saturday.  It was a hit.

Be Our Guest

All of our guest rooms are now fully operational!  They were all in use this weekend.
